Fridge Idea

I don't know if they have this (I'm assuming they don't because I've never heard of it), but I think that they should have a power socket inside fridges. I suppose this would lead to people doing stupid things (like running their computer in there), but I think it would be really useful for other reasons (for instance running a small fan or air de-odorizer). For all of us not buying this new amazing fridge, they should make a air de-odorizer (possibly with fan) that sits between the light socket and the light. You might have to mess with your door opening thing to keep power flowing to the whole assembly.. or better yet, a air cleaning thing with fan, bright LED light, and motion sensor to detect when you open the door so it can turn the light on. That shouldn't be expensive, so I can afford it and stick it in my fridge, which stinks.

I think something that *absorbs* odors may be the way to go - like the idea of leaving an open box of baking soda in there, but maybe more effective? That, or just turning it off, emptying the thing, and letting it stand open for a few days while eating takeout.
Maybe spraying Oust in there a whole bunch?? It's supposed to be for the very purpose of stinky air - I think...?

Thinking it over, the only other workable solution is an air freshener, which would just cover the smell with a perfume. And you know how I feel about perfumes :-)
Besides, you you want all your food to absorb whatever smell you pick? Might be ishy.

More random thoughts on this as I avoid doing actual work -

As I would know (*sigh*):
Unfortunately, air cleaner thingies are complicated and expensive apparatusses. (Is that a word?? Ah well...) And some work better than others, and the ones that actually work (especially on persistent smells) consume rather major amounts of power. The ionic breeze or something like it might not work, because I'm betting that the electrostatic plates won't make the damp-nasty-smell stick to them (on account of the damp part). They do seem to work a lot worse in humidity.
Fans by themselves would have to blow the air to somewhere out of the fridge, like an exhaust. Obvious problems with that...
1) The fridge would be SO much harder to keep cool - circulating out the cold air! : (
2) The area around the fridge would not only get cold, but be stinky... eeeew...
3)If no exhaust, then the air just moves more, but also hits you in the face with the stinky more every time you open the fridge. *getting a bit green at the idea - shiver*

By 'air cleaner' I meant something similar to baking soda that pulls the yuck out of the air. basically, you have to get the moisture out of the air, so doing strange things like putting crumpled newspapers in there has helped a lot. And the fan would just be circulating air inside the fridge, not pushing the air in the fridge out.

Ahh. So basically, you really just need a fan in there. The air cleaning thing doesn't necessarily have to have anything to do with the fan... although I suppose that having the two in close proximity would help make sure the baking soda/whatever is in the area of greatest airflow.
